Staff Program for Promoting Constructive Discipline in Practice
A Staff Capacity Building Program was conducted for DBAI staff on 18th March 2026 by Mr. Rabbi Raymond, from Don Bosco Egmore, who has expertise in dealing with children for more than 17 years. The program emphasized the importance of discipline over punishment, encouraging staff to adopt constructive and thoughtful approaches rather than reactive measures when guiding children.
The session highlighted that while staff should recognize, validate and acknowledge children’s mistakes, they should not reinforce or support inappropriate behavior. Instead, children should be guided to understand the consequences of their actions and the nature of their mistakes. This approach helps them take responsibility and supports their development in the long run.
Additionally, the session focused on understanding the functions of the lower brain and upper brain in children, explaining how emotional and logical responses influence behavior. Staff were encouraged to work with both short-term and long-term goals to bring about positive behavioral changes in children.
The program also emphasized that love and care play a crucial role in correcting behavior and building trust with children.
Overall, the session provided practical insights into managing responses effectively and fostering a positive, structured and disciplined environment for children’s growth and development.
